This session begins with an official Traditional Coast Salish Welcome, followed by a range of interactive presentations of academic, health, wellness and cultural services available for students that will certainly give you a “heads up” start to your studies. We realize this is a busy day for all of us, but we’re trying something new this year and hoping it will be something we can sustain as a welcome for our new students in the years to come. As part of the event, we will be setting up a small fair with booths that are made up of available resources for Aboriginal Students at VIU. We’re hoping you (or a representative from your area) can set up a table with information the students can take away with them. Students will be given a passport to complete. Once they finish approaching each booth they will have an opportunity to enter a draw for a big prize (TBD). We’re hoping the resource fair will be made up of the following departments: Services for Aboriginal Students The Office of Aboriginal Education & Engagement Elders-in-Residence (Sylvia, can you put this in their calendar pleaseJ) Su’luqw’a’-Community Cousins Aboriginal Mentorship Program (Sylvia, can you email the cousins as well pleaseJ) Indigenous Portfolio (I know Tania will be on maternity leave, but will there be someone in place by then?) Aboriginal University Bridging Program Counselling Disability Services (Learning Strategist?) Library Resources VIUSU Gym/Campus Recreation We hope to see you there!
