It is a concept that speaks to a strengths perspective that is common in social work and other helping professions. The foundation of cultural resilience is that all populations outside of the majority have cultural assets that assist them in overcoming the obstacles that can encompass living and functioning in majority society (Strand & Peacock, 2003). Various examples are presented that apply cultural resilience theory to Native students completing college, the impact of elders in fostering cultural resilience, and in traditional stories.
