As mentors we have a responsibility to serve the Aboriginal student population. Therefore, to become a 'cousin' we undergo a training process which gives us basic skills and resources in order to give what we can to students who are in need of our services!

The Aboriginal mentorship program builds capacity for mentors to gain valuable leadership skills, employability skills and career related experience through outreach and mentoring activities.

Aboriginal student mentors will complete 5-10 hours of classroom training and an additional five hours of team building activity outside of the classroom. Training includes looking at what mentorship is from an aboriginal perspective, self-awareness, communication, leadership, self care and an exploration of personal values, with an emphasis on narrative, or "telling one's story" as a path to self empowerment through outreach to others.
